Anna Curreri Battaglia, age 97, a lifelong resident of Hammonton and Elm, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25th at Samaritan Center Hospice, Virtua Campus, Route 73, Voorhees.
After attending Hammonton High School, Anna learned hairdressing at the Marinello Beauty School and then did an internship at Frank and Seder Department Store, both places in Philadelphia. At age eighteen Anna opened the Modern Beauty Shop on Horton St. and Bellevue Avenue, Hammonton, where she was the proprietor for six years. Married to husband Joseph Battaglia, the couple operated White Horse Farms and Produce Market for fifty years from 1949-1999, where Anna would teach good selling techniques along with practical life lessons to hired boy and girl teens. Mrs. Battaglia also liked giving advice to younger relatives who would often ask for her opinion.
Anna was a past member of the St. Joseph Church Choir along with the Catholic Daughters, was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church, at St. Anthony of Padua and later at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel, and she served as a volunteer at Kessler Memorial Hospital, where in the 1960s Mrs. Battaglia was co-founder of the Kessler Hospital Snack Bar and Gift Shop.
During her lifetime, Anna loved traveling around the world with her husband Joseph, vacationing in Florida, Europe, China, Israel, Japan and South America. Cooking Sunday Italian meals for her children and grandchildren was especially Anna's greatest pleasure.
Anna is survived by her daughter Joanne Wiessner and her husband John of Hammonton along with Eileen Paretti and her husband Oliviero of Waterford Works. She is the loving grandmother of Joseph Wiessner (wife Karen) of Hammonton, John Thomas Wiessner of Woodbury and Stephen (wife Michelle) of Saddle Brook, NJ, of Jeffrey Paretti (wife Paula) of Waterford Works, of Lori Paretti Defeo (husband Frank) of Dorothy, NJ and David Paretti (wife Jennifer) of Waterford Works.
