Anthony P. Merlino - 92 of Hammonton passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Born in Hammonton in 1918, he was a lifelong resident. In 1949, Anthony began farming and was a partner in Oakcrest Farms in Nesco, New Jersey. He was also a produce broker, trucking company owner and president of Merlino Bros, Inc. until he retired in 1997. He was a lifetime member of the Atlantic County Board of Agriculture and a member and past president of the Garden State Branch of the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association. Anthony was a Business member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and also belonged to the American Legion Post # 186 and V.F.W. Post # 1026. He served in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant in the European Theatre during World War II. He was deeply religious and a devout catholic. Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Iacata " Agata " ( nee Sibilia ) Merlino, his brothers, Joseph, Salvatore, and Carmen and sisters. Sarah Mortelette, Lena Jacobs and Mary Santilli. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose ( nee DeMarco ), two daughters, Ginna (Gladys ) Allen and her husband Clayton of Hammonton, NJ, Linda Merlino of Cape May, NJ, his two precious grandchildren, Marissa and Keith Marshall of Cape May and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, April 7th from 9:00am - 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - St. Anthony of Padua Church 285 Rt. 206 Hammonton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am at the Church followed by entombment at Greenmount Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. In memory of Anthony, contributions may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, 3rd and French Streets, Hammonton, NJ 08037.
