Doughlas ("Doug") Russell Affrunti, age 77, departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 18th, after a brief illness. He was born in 1947 to the late Francis and Ethel (nee Rattinger) in Hammonton, NJ and grew up in Waterford Works, NJ. He graduated from Edgewood High School, where he excelled in football and wrestling. He worked as a Loss Prevention Supervisor for several different companies, including Jamesway, Rickel's Home Ctr. and Patriot Mfg. He was a former machine presser for Kessler Clothing Shop, and often helped in the family convenience store, "Affrunti Self Service". He worked several years at Whitehall Labs and, later, in both the Philadelphia and Atlantic City International Airports as a Federal Officer for Homeland Security. He lived most of his life in Hammonton and resided in Mays Landing at the time of his death.
Throughout his life, physical fitness was important to him. He practiced karate and lifted weights. He was a skilled woodworker, and enjoyed making projects in his workshop. He was an excellent cook and baker, making many wonderful meals and known for his famous pizzelle cookies (which he loved to share with family and friends). He delighted in spending time with the granddaughters he adored, Cecilia and Amanda Brown.
Doug is pre-deceased by his beloved wife Cecilia Ann (nee Trimble), his parents, his brothers (Frank and Bruce), and his nephew (Frank, Jr.). He is survived by his loving 20-year life partner, Sandra Rausch; his daughters Michele M. Brown (nee Affrunti) and Sherri A. Affrunti; his son-in-law Richard Brown; his granddaughters; his nephews Chad Affrunti (wife Rachel) and Adam Affrunti (wife Eileen); his niece Christina Affrunti; his sisters-in-law Liz and Marie Affrunti; his grand-dog Pikachu; and many other family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, Dec. 28th at Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. 3rd Street, Hammonton, from 10:00am -12:00pm. A eulogy and services will beginning at 12:00pm. Burial will follow immediately after Service. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 248 S First Rd. Hammonton, NJ 08037.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
