Edward. Gandolfi 84- of Folsom, passed away on July 26, 2011. Born in Hammonton and graduated Hammonton High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII. Ed was then drafted by the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Frankfurt Germany as a radio operator with the 4TH Infantry Headquarters Division. In 1951, while in Germany, he married his wife of 56 years, Marian E. Ransom of Hammonton. After returning to the US, Ed and Marian owned and operated the Green Terrace Motel and Luncheonette in Folsom for 34 years. In1964, Ed had the opportunity to become a Field Section Warden for the NJ State Forest Fire Service, until his retirement in 1991.
Ed was very community oriented, and was a member of several local organizations, as well as the Folsom Fire Co. He began his political career in 1968 as a councilman, and in 1976 was elected Mayor, and held that office until 1991.During his time in politics, Ed spent numerous hours trying to preserve the pureness of small community life in growing area. He was proud to call FOLSOM HIS HOME!
As many people know, Ed's hobbies were collecting Antiques, Stamps, Cameras, bottles and much more. But his biggest collection of all was the thousands of photos of all the people, places, and things that he encountered in his life.
Edward was predeceased by his wife, Marion E. (Ransom), parents, Albert and Carmella (Scardino) Gandolfi, brother, Gino Gandolfi, sister and Brother in Law Olga and Anthony (Ben) Santora. He is survived by his three children; Bruce (Rita) of Hammonton, Michele (John) Brittingham of Crisfield Md., and Gary (Stefana) of Absecon. Four Grandchildren, Gary, Allison, Pamela, and Michael (Stacy). Three great- grandchildren, Sara, Emily, and Mary. His sister and Brother-in-law, Gloria (Gandolfi ) and Thomas McDermott , and his extended family and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday July 29, 2011 at Marinella Funeral Home 102 N Third St. Hammonton from 8:30 until 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Joseph's Church, 3rd Street, Hammonton. Internment will immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Old Forks Road Hammonton NJ. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
