Emanuel "Sonny" Sanfilippo age 83 of Elm, NJ passed away peacefully Wednesday December 30th, 2020 at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center-Mainland.
Sonny was born in Hammonton and went on to serve in the U.S. Airforce from 1956 - 1961. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1026 and was 3rd degree in the Knights of Columbus Palloti Council. Sonny was an organizing member of the Squires, the Jr. Knights of Columbus as well as a charter member of the Elm Vol. Fire Co. He was very active with the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Festival and ushered at St. Joseph Church. A draftsman by trade, Sonny worked for R.C.A. in Camden where he helped to develop the Apollo Spacecraft before continuing on to working for Dupont in Delaware. He retired as the manager of the Atco Raceway and went on to be a service representative for Tomasella Fire Equipment.
He is predeceased by his parents Biagio and Mary Sanfilippo, daughter Annette V. Micciche, brother Lawrence Sanfilippo and sisters Angelina Macrie and Phyllis Tomasella.
Surviving is his loving wife Carolyn (nee DiDomenico) and his sons Dr. Emanuel Sanfilippo (Donna) and Michael Sanfilippo (Katrina). Loving grandfather to Travis James Bittenbender and Chris Micciche, Caryn (Harry) Carney and Jenna Sanfilippo, and Emanuel III, Santino and Talia Sanfilippo. Great-grandfather to Isabella and Dean.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Tuesday January 5th from 6:00-8:00pm and Wednesday the 6th from 9:00-10:30am all at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Joseph Church 3rd & French Streets Hammonton, NJ. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 248 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Sonny's memory to V.F.W. Post 1026 P.O. Box 939 Hammonton, NJ 08037.
