George W. Dixon, age 93 of Hammonton, NJ passed away Sunday May 18, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Born in Blue Anchor, NJ, he lived in Hammonton all of his life. George enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in WWII and was discharged after receiving Four Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star on his chest in 1944. He was a member of Hammonton American Legion F.A. Funston Post # 186, Hammonton V.F.W. Passalaqua Post # 1026 and former Tres.for Our Lady of Assumption Society in Hammonton. He retired from the Hammonton Board of Education where he worked at the High School for over 23 years. He previously worked for the Alliance Clay Brick Yard in Winslow, NJ. Predeceased by his wife Catherine G. (nee Amedio) and parents William and Ella May Dixon. Surviving are his 2 sons, Thomas and his wife Christine of Hammonton, NJ and George and his wife Lynda of West Orange, NJ. Brother Charles Dixon of Blue Anchor, NJ and sister Dorothy Halacki of Hammonton, NJ. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday from 9:00am until 10:30am at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - St. Joseph Church 3rd & French Streets Hammonton, NJ. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. Donations may be made to a Charity of one's choice.
