Jean Ellen Jones passed away peacefully in her Hammonton residence on the evening of October 20th. She is predeceased by her parents Dan and Jennie Salerno and her sister Joan Olive. She is survived by her sister Ann Graf (Michigan City); her children Charles Jones and wife Maria; Hallie Reese and fiancée Doug Myers; her granddaughter Maegan Kaczmarek and husband Chris Kaczmarek, and grandson Kyle Reese. Jean spent her professional career involved in the arts. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Moore College of Art and took her talents to New York City as a freelance artist where she created advertisements for clothing and luxury goods, play bill designs, and other works, published in the NY Times and other widespread print media. She returned to Hammonton in the late 1950's to start her family and pursued undergraduate and master's degrees in education. She worked as a first grade and art teacher at Hammonton Elementary School and ultimately moved to Hammonton High School where she transformed the art department into the gem of South Jersey school systems. During her tenure, the department became known for its creativity and workmanship as demonstrated in the sets created for Plays, murals painted throughout the high school (now middle school), countless awards by her students in state wide art shows, and students pursuing the craft. Jean also utilized her talents within the community: co-leading an award winning slide show series on the history of Hammonton, designing glass windows for local churches, bringing her talents to hospital galas, and designing the program covers for Cape Atlantic League Athletic Awards ceremonies. Jean was also known for her presence at sporting events within the community. With her signature lawn chair and woolen brown lap blanket, Jean was a fixture at her son's football games and her daughter's field hockey and softball games. Her love for sport and support of the community extended beyond her children's HS years and Jean attend many Hammonton High School sporting events for the next 20 years.
