Jeanette LaRosa Feeley, 92 died 2nd day of July 2010 at the Fairview Care Center in Philadelphia. She was a longtime resident of Hammonton, New Jersey.
Mrs. Feeley was a grammar school teacher and reading specialist for many years at the Shaner Public School in Mays Landing, New Jersey. She is survived by four sons, Donald V. Feeley (Joan), Paul N. Feeley, C. David Feeley (Carol), Kevin A. Feeley (Lisa) and seven grandchildren.
Jeanette LaRosa Feeley was born and raised in Hammonton, and was a member of the Hammonton High School Class of 1935. She attended Guilford College in North Carolina and obtained her Masters degree in education from Rowan University. A lifelong teacher, she met her husband, Donald V. Feeley, while teaching in Virginia in 1943. They were married four months later, in San Francisco in January 1944 - just days before Lt. Feeley returned to the Pacific during World War II. After the War, they raised four sons, and Mrs. Feeley was widowed in 1961. She returned to teaching after her own sons started school, and she continued until her retirement in 1980.
Mrs. Feeley served many years as President of the Hammonton Historical Society and was a local authority on the history of Hammonton and the people who lived there. In 1989 she succeeded in securing the publication of an early 20th Century study entitled, "The Italian on the Land," which focused on immigrant Italian farmworkers who had settled in Hammonton at that time. The study was conducted by the mother of acclaimed sociologist Margaret Mead. Mrs. Feeley wrote the forward for the study when it was published.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton on Tues eve 7-9pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wed 11:15am at St. Mary of St. Carmel Parish, St. Martin de Porres Church Egg Harbor Rd. in Hammonton, and burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hammonton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her name be made to the Hammonton Historical Society, 333 Vine St., Hammonton, NJ 08037. ( www.marinellafuneralhome.com)
