Joel E. Mayes age 83 on Monday, October 8, 2012, Joel passed away peacefully with his family at his side after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Beloved husband of Doris (nee Speece) of 51 years, loving father of Cynthia (Michael) Coleman, Karen (Robert) Watts, Joelle Mayes, adoring grandfather of Stephanie Coleman, Kayleigh and Bradley Watts, James (Erin) Brabazon III, Thomas and Ashley Mastrangelo and great grandfather to James Brabazon IV. Joel will also leave behind many sister and brother-in-laws along with numerous nieces and nephews. His family will fondly remember his faithful physician for many years, Dr. Eric Finkenstadt. Joel was born in Phila., Pa. and was raised in Maple Shade, NJ. He served 9 years in the National Guard 50th Armored Tank Division in Camden, NJ. He was employed by the AB Dick Company in King of Prussia, Pa for over 25 years. Joel and his wife along with their girls enjoyed camping and traveling the Eastern US. After raising their three girls, they started traveling more extensively outside the United States visiting England, the Caribbean and the Eastern part of Canada. Joel is best known for his woodworking skills, tinkering with his train collections, his avid gardening skills, fresh and salt water fishing and having a boat docked in Brigantine. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with the family all around for special occasions. He will be remembered forever in our hearts as a kind, patient and loving man. Joel was a very active member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Woodbury, NJ for 30 years. Services will be held in the church at 230 N. Evergreen Ave., Woodbury, NJ 08096. Viewing will be from 4 to 6 pm and a memorial service will take place following viewing from 6 to 7 pm on Friday, October 12, 2012. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church or Foundation for Breast and Prostate Health, 1845 Walnut Street, Phila., Pa. 19103.
