John C. Capehart went to dance on the streets of Heaven with those he loved on October 1, 2024. He was 52 years old.
John was a man driven by his passion for honor, duty, service, loyalty and love of family. As a Marine, he pledged himself to the Corp's core values of honor, courage and commitment. As a police officer and volunteer fireman, he swore an oath to never betray his integrity or character and to always hold himself accountable while serving others. He lived up to those commitments every day of his life.
And yet, while his love of country and love of service were an important part of his daily life, they didn't even come close to his love of his family and friends. His wife, Tammi, was the center of his life for 17 years. His love for his mother, Nancy (Anna Marie) Williams, was extraordinary. His bond with each of them was so deep that even death cannot break it.
He was proud of his siblings, especially his partnership with his younger brother, Jason Capehart, Sr. (pre-deceased), which he lovingly dubbed "The Hart Brothers," his sister Kelli Turro (pre-deceased), who he nicknamed his "Skippy" and sister Traci Harvey, who always looked up to him as her "big little brother."
He cherished his role in the life of his stepson, Jimmy, often saying how thankful he was for his memories of raising him and having such an important role in his life. In addition, his role as uncle to his nieces and nephews (Ashley, Kayla, Michelle, Elaina, Steven, Alyssa, Jason, Matt, Danny) went above and beyond-from fixing and repairing things for them, to being a confidant, to joking and doing silly things just to make them laugh, to stepping up and standing in when they truly needed him the most--his influence in their lives will never be forgotten.
John also believed that "Friends are the family you find along the way." For John, his family always included the Wethman family, the Guadagno family, the Donnelly family and many more.
He made an impact on every life he touched. He will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts.
