John N. Bertino, age 80 of Hammonton, passed away Friday April 8, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hammonton, he was a lifelong resident. John was the president of Variety Farms Inc. and Diamond Blueberry Inc. He was a kind man from humble beginnings who grew his father's small farm into the large operation that it has become today. He was honored for his service in the agricultural community with numerous awards over his lifetime. In 1992, Variety Farms Inc. was named "Industry of the Year" by the Hammonton Chamber of Commerce. In the years 2000 and 2006, John received "The Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award" from the Atlantic County Board of Agriculture. And in 2011, John received the "Grower of the Year" award from The Vegetable and Blueberry Growers Association of NJ. John will be remembered as an unassuming man that had a great love of farming, a deep respect for the land, and a generous heart.
John was the devoted husband of Nancy (nee Coates), beloved father of Terri Sliwecki, Lisa Raso and her companion Art Jamieson, and Lori Bertino and her companion Ron Hungridge, all of Hammonton, dear brother of Rita Ricca (Sam) of Hammonton and Nancy Ford of Fort Pierce, Fla. John is the loving grandfather of Robert and Brandon Raso, Joseph and Lindsey Minock. John is predeceased by his brother Eugene Bertino. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday April 11th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 11:30am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - St. Anthony of Padua Church 285 Rt. 206 Hammonton, NJ. Entombment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery White Horse Pike ( Rt. 30 )Hammonton, NJ. In John's memory donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.( www.marinellafuneralhome.com.)
