John Paul 'Jack' Murray

John Paul Murray, age 84, passed away on April 16 in Hammonton NJ.
He was born and raised in Newark NJ one of four children born to Grace and James Murray. Known as Jack, he is survived by two siblings Sister Sheila Murray, of Somers Point NJ and James Murray of Cortland, New York. His younger brother Michael Murray of Pittsburgh PA is deceased. Proud of his Newark heritage, he found his hard knock upbringing as blessing in achieving success in business and life. He was a father and grandfather, he was active in hockey coaching in Summit New Jersey and later In Manchester New Hampshire, coaching a midget hockey team to a New England Championship. His stellar work career as a court reporter earned him national honors as a shorthand speed champion. He was the owner of a freelance court reporting firm, JP Murray and Associates in Short Hills NJ.
Later in life, he challenged himself to pursue a lifelong desire to sing and studied voice with the great Metropolitan opera star, Jerome Hines. He also discovered a passion for painting later in life when he could no longer work due to a Parkinson's diagnosis. Most importantly, Jack Murray was a constant cheerleader for all his young generation descendants in their interests and talents, communicating his great love and admiration for them all. His message of self improvement was uppermost in his mind often reminding all young people to go after the dreams and work hard at it. His family in heaven welcomes him into heavenly rest.
