It is with great sadness, we announce our beloved husband and father, Joseph L. Lucca, age 89, of Hammonton, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Joe was born on December 13, 1935, was raised in Hammonton and graduated from Hammonton High School, Class of 1953. Joe was deeply rooted in the produce industry, beginning his career at the Produce Auction. After high school, he attended Pierce Jr. College in Philadelphia, when he vowed to never work more than three miles from home-a promise he kept throughout his life with the exception of honorably serving his country in the NJ Army National Guard.
Joe worked for C.R.S. Inc. before starting his own brokerage business in 1982, JRL Inc., with his wife, RoseAnn. He also expanded into farming, which led into starting a cold storage business, providing a solid foundation for his sons to build Lucca Cold Storage. Joe took great satisfaction in the fact he never retired from his profession - even at the age of 89.
Joe's work ethic and pride in his family were evident to all who knew him. Despite his health complications, he never complained or sought pity, and his family was fortunate to recently celebrate his 89th birthday and spend their final Christmas together, which they consider a blessing.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Marie (Pino) Lucca. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, RoseAnn (nee DiMeglio), his children, Rusty (Lynne), J. Michael (Anne), Paula M. Carrelli (Tony), and Carolyn Mazza (Gary), as well as his nine grandchildren: Christy, Michelle (Charlie), Ryan, Kyle, Marissa, Stephanie (Jason), Kaitlyn, Dominic, and JohnPaul, and his great-grandson, Charlie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3rd and French St., Hammonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m., with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 248 S. First Rd., Hammonton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
