Joseph M. Fondacaro, Sr., 83, went to walk with the Lord on Tuesday, May 15, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Joseph resided at Amore' in Stuart, Florida. He was born in Blue Anchor, on October 5 1934 to parents Antonio and Anna (Delano) Fondacaro, and both were born in Italy.Joseph was the youngest of five children. His siblings, deceased, are sister; Victoria Schafer, with whom he shared a very strong bond with and lovingly referred to her as "Sis", and three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Nicholas Fondacaro.He resided in South Florida for the last 37 years and had been retired for the last 16 years. Prior to moving to Florida, Joseph was employed for many years as a carpenter for Texaco Oil Refinery in Westville, NJ. He was also a substitute teacher for the Camden County school system. Joseph was married to Marie Katherine Fondacaro (Puleo) who passed away in 2014. Surviving are his three sons and their spouses, Joseph Fondacaro Jr, (Charlotte Parker) of Hammonton NJ, Gregory Fondacaro, (Donna Maccarella) of Sewell NJ, and Steven Fondacaro, (Deena Cifelli) of Jensen Beach Florida. Joseph was predeceased by his daughter, Terese Fondacaro.He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lindsay Fondacaro, Kristina Fondacaro, Nicholas Fondacaro, Sarena Fondacaro, Nathan Fondacaro, Joseph C. Fondacaro, Sarah Fondacaro and Stevie Fondacaro, and has one great grandchild, Victoria Rose Creamer. Joseph also is survived by his nephews Robert Schafer (Nancy) of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Joseph Noble of Fort Pierce, Florida. Joseph has one surviving cousin, Domenic Fondacaro (Liz) of Ulla Dulla, Australia.Joseph served his country in the United States Army in 1956 during the war in Korea. He was an avid gardener and his home and garden were always filled with flowers, plants and vegetables. His beautiful property was featured, highlighted and photographed numerous times by the local St Lucie newspaper. He was also an excellent cook and loved to prepare the Italian recipes that his parents brought here from Italy. His hobbies included crabbing in the warm summer months, spending time with the grandchildren in Disney World, and visiting the Atlantic City casinos. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Tuesday May 29, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm with services at 7:00pm at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton.
