Marie J. Doto (nee Marella) age 104, of Sicklerville, NJ, and formerly of Philadelphia, PA passed away Friday, October 6, 2023.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her niece best described her as a “proper lady” and an “impeccable hostess”. An excellent cook, her family most looked forward to being the lucky recipients of her chicken cutlets, meatballs, chicken soup, pizzelles, and ham pies. Marie never tired of sharing her traditional Italian culinary skills with her daughters and grandchildren and was always willing to jump in as a sous-chef at any family gathering.
Marie spent her free time reading, crocheting, and playing cards and games with her daughters and great-grandchildren. Although her family was her primary focus, Marie looked forward to her rides to Atlantic City, where she had a passion for sitting and playing her favorite penny slot machines at Resorts or Tropicana Casino.
In her last months, she enjoyed spending her time doing puzzles and cooking with her new friend and caretaker Sheri (Jodi) and looked forward to her visits from her physical therapist, “Munchkin”.
Marie is predeceased by her husband, Alphonso M. Doto, parents, Silvio and Rose Marella, brother, Silvio Marella, sister, Anna Michelini and sons-in-law Gaetano “Jim” Matro and Raymond “Ray” Hughes.
She is survived by her daughters Martha Matro of Hammonton, NJ, and Sylvia Hughes of Sicklerville, NJ. Marie will be sadly missed by her 9 grandchildren Annmarie Long (Mike), Francine McCarty (Scott), Jim Matro (Jean), Guy Matro (Megan), Robert Hughes (Joanne), Michael Hughes (Christina), Marcia Marble (William), John Matro (Jessica) and Kristen Aydin, 26 great-grandchildren Michael (Noel), Matt, Trevor, Sarah (Stephen), Jake, Chris, Tony, Hayden, Connor, Will, Sophia, Jack, Sam, John, Raelynn, Alyssa, Parker, Wyatt, Haley, Kyle, Quinn, Charlotte, Nisa, Jayla, Knox, and Teghan and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church 300 E. Kings Hwy Haddon Heights, NJ. Entombment will be in New St. Mary’s Cemetery Browning Rd. Bellmawr, NJ.
