Marie Romano died on September 28, 2011, at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her parents Rose and George Berenato, her brother Andy, and her great granddaughter Tanna. She is survived by her children, Dr. Janet Romano, Rita Weeks (Walt), Mary Triboletti (Fred), and Ralph Romano (Marie); grandchildren, Mark (Jessica) and Andrea Triboletti, Christina, Rachel, Angelina, Ralph, and Sophia Romano, and great grandchild Brayden. She is also survived by step-grandchildren William (Kirstin) Weeks and Michael (Jessica) Weeks and step-great grandchildren Emily, Natalie, Jacob and Sophia Weeks.
A lifelong resident of Hammonton, Marie graduated from Hammonton High in 1944. She earned her diploma as a Registered Nurse from the Hahnemann School of Nursing and completed her B.S. at the University of Pennsylvania. She served as a nursing instructor at Penn until her marriage to Ralph Romano. She went on to combine the roles of wife and mother with her profession, simultaneously raising four children and working as staff nurse, training coordinator and finally as Nursing Administrator at Kessler Memorial Hospital. The academic call was answered again as Marie returned to Penn to complete her Master's degree, graduating with her daughter Janet. She completed her career at Atlantic Community College as Assistant Professor of Nursing, passing the torch of compassionate patient care to her students. In retirement, she remained the hub of the family, now caring for her grandchildren while pursuing friendships, gardening, sewing, Scrabble, and cooking. She also continued to serve as the go-to person for all questions medical, providing counsel and care to family and friends. Marie dedicated herself to caring for her husband Ralph when he became ill, marking their 50th anniversary with the love that characterized their partnership throughout the years.
Marie was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 1, 2011, beginning at 9:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 285 Route 206 in Hammonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am.
