Nicholas Fortis age 70 of Egg Harbor City, NJ passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday May 28, 2011 at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, NJ. Born in Hammonton, NJ he graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1958. Nick was the owner and operator of Fortis Construction Company. He later worked for Absecon Mills for over 10 years retiring in 2009. Nick was the past Grand Knight and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 3500 of Egg Harbor. He loved to hunt, fish and was known for his famous tomatoes. Nick is predeceased by his daughter Karyn Marker, his infant son Gregory and his parents Angelo and Anna. He is survived by his wife Margaret (nee Deltrone), his children Nicholas of Davie, FL, Michele Samanic and her husband John of Hammonton, Stephen and his wife Eileen of Galloway, and son in law Tim Marker of Mays Landing. Dear brother of John Fortis and his wife Bea and Erma Tidwell and her late husband George all of Hammonton. Loving grandfather of Anthony and Christine Fortis, Nicole Shea, Annie and Corinne Samanic, Julianna, Kailyn, Jacqueline and Nicholas Fortis, Timmy and Alexis Marker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Tuesday eve. 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Weds. 10:00am at St. Nicholas Church 525 St. Louis Ave. Egg Harbor City, NJ. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery 5061 Rt. 40 Harding Hiway Mays Landing, NJ.
