Roderick Cabacungan

Roderick "Erick" Cabacungan age 52 of Hammonton, NJ passed away Monday July 29, 2024 in Galloway Twp, NJ.

Erick was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey. He is predeceased by his mother Remedios Brooks and her husband William.

After graduating high school, Erick proudly served his country by joining the United States Navy, where he was a Navy Corpsman for 8 years.

Erick's travels took him to Washington, D.C. where his passion for taking care of people took place at the George Washington University Hospital (GWUH)working as an Emergency Room Technician while attending George Mason University, in Northern Virginia. He graduated with honors and earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at George Mason University in 2005 and transitioned as an Emergency Room Nurse, where he served in various roles: as a trauma nurse, charge nurse and continued to educate countless nursing students, new graduate nurses and other healthcare professionals.

When Erick made the decision to go back to New Jersey, he worked as a registered nurse for AtlantiCare in Pomona, New Jersey, where he served in similar roles at GWUH, where he continued to care for the sick, give advice and mentored countless nurses, using his love for caring for individuals, helping future generations of nurses make quick precise lifesaving decisions to ensure patients are treated safely and appropriately.

Erick quickly found the love of his life, Shehleen (Khan)-Cabacungan in NJ. They grew together in good times and bad, through sickness and in health. Erick was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2021. He continued to fight bravely with his wife, family and friends supporting him every step of the way. He continued to live his life with purpose, enjoying every moment.

Erick is survived by his loving wife Shehleen Khan-Cabacungan. Along with his brother Rodney Cabacungan and in laws.

Family and friends are invited to attend his service at Atlantic County Darus Salam Academy 242 W. White Horse Pike Galloway Twp, NJ 08205 at 11am with burial immediately following at Greenmount Cemetery S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ 08037.
