Thomas C. Elvins, III age 88 of Hammonton, NJ died July 27, 2012 due to injuries from a car accident on July 13, 2012. Born in Hammonton, NJ he was a life long resident and graduated from Hammonton High School class of 1941
. He worked on his fathers farm before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1946 during WWII on the USS Minneapolis. Tommy retired from Operating Engineers Local 825 with over 60 years of service. His passion was the Independent Volunteer Fire Co of Hammonton. In his 66 plus years of service he held every positon except chief at his own request. He also volunteered for the Hammonton Police Dept. and Rescue Squad.
Predeceased by his parents Edward Hubbert Elvins and Louise Ruby ( nee Ruggero ),
Brother Edward Hubbert Elvins, Jr. and sister Lila R. Schmidt. Surviving are his wife Dorothy ( nee Reeves ). Daughter Bonnie Lou Petruzzo and companion Lester J. MacDonald of Clementon, NJ and Thomas C. Elvins, Jr. and his wife Janet of Plymouth Meeting, PA. Loving grandfather of Joseph A. Petruzzo, Gina L. Como and her late husband Keith M., Thomas A. Elvins and Nikolas A. Elvins. Great Grandfather of Michael L. Como, Joseph A. Petruzzo, Richard B. Petruzzo and Anthony P. Como Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday August 10 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am until 10:30am at the Independent Volunteer Fire Co. of Hammonton 51 N. White Horse Pike Hammonton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Joseph Church 3rd and French Streets Hammonton, NJ. Entombment will be in Greenmount Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. Arrangements entrusted to the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton, NJ.
