Veronica Mortellite, a lifelong resident of Hammonton, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on February 23, 2025. Veronica's life was deeply rooted in the Hammonton community, beginning with her childhood at her family's restaurant, the Lillian on the Lake. In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, George Mortellite Sr.
From 1963 to 1991, Veronica embraced the role of a true Hammonton "farm wife," standing faithfully by George's side at Buffalo Farms. Known for her warm spirit, she would often be seen driving around town in her pickup truck, gathering the packing girls for work.
During the 1980s, Veronica was an active member of the Republican party, supporting George as he served on the town council and as Mayor. She was a dedicated volunteer, organizing and participating in numerous events that benefited the town of Hammonton.
Veronica and George enjoyed cruising in his antique cars and trying their luck at the Atlantic City casinos. She loved entertaining and cherished time spent with family and friends in Ocean City and Delray Beach, Florida. An avid traveler, she delighted in exploring new places and meeting new people. Veronica's greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren, and she was always eager to snap a photo. Her infectious smile and ability to bring laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Veronica was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Mortellite Sr.; her parents, Mildred and John Petkevis; and her siblings, Leon Petkevis, Eddie Petkevis, Millie Presti, and Richard Petkevis. She is survived by her loving sons, George Mortellite Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Gary Mortellite and his wife, Tammy; her dedicated caregiver and dear friend Luba Gorozhanova; her cherished grandchildren, Nicole (Brandon), Tiffany (Tyler), Giana, Lorin, Kara (Matt), and Gary Mortellite Jr.; and her adored great-grandchildren, Savannah and Olive.
Relatives and friends may attend her visitation on Wednesday February 26, 2025 from 9:30am - 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Joseph Church 3rd & French Street, Hammonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 248 S 1st Rd. Hammonton, NJ 08037.
