Virgil J. "Spike" 89 of Egg Harbor Township passed away on Thursday January 23, 2014. He was born and raised in Hammonton where he lived most of his life. He owned and operated VJ Sacco Plumbing and Heating before he retired in 1989. He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Mamie Sacco. Also his Wife Bettie ( nee Gatto ) and companion in later years Wilma Morse. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, Walter, Peter, Albert and Jimmy Sacco. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Gelner (John), his grandchildren, Todd Sacco Sr.(fiance Lucy), Tiffany Wiedemann (Michael), Frank Capille Jr., his brother Charles (Chubby) Sacco and his sister Gloria Federico, and 8 great-grandchildren. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific where he was stationed in Okinawa. Virgil was a member of the Hammonton American Legion F.A. Faunston Post # 186, Hammonton V.F.W. Passalaqua Post # 1026 and Sons of Italy Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge # 1658. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing Monday from 10:00am until 12:30pm with services at 12:30pm at the Marinella Funeral Home at 102 N. Third St. in Hammonton, N.J. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association South Jersey Regional Office 3 Eves Dr., Suite 310 Marlton, NJ 08053.
